A safari in Tanzania is not only about game drives. There are many unique and exciting activities that can make your journey even more memorable. From cultural experiences to breathtaking adventures, these activities allow you to see Tanzania from different perspectives and create unforgettable moments during your trip.
Half-Day Arusha City Tour
Before or after your safari, a half-day tour of Arusha town is a wonderful way to experience local life. This tour takes you into the heart of this busy and colorful town. You can visit a local school, a church, and the lively market where locals do their daily shopping. You will also have the chance to relax with a drink in a local pub. This experience gives you a real taste of Tanzanian culture and daily life.

Serengeti Hot Air Balloon Ride
One of the most magical experiences you can have on safari is a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti plains.
Your adventure begins the night before with a safety briefing by the guides. Early in the morning, between 4:00 am and 5:00 am, you will be picked up from your lodge or camp and transferred to the launch site. Upon arrival around 6:00 am, you can enjoy hot Tanzanian coffee, homemade cookies, access to clean facilities, and even free Wi-Fi while waiting for takeoff.
After a final safety briefing from the pilot, the balloon usually takes off around 6:30 am, depending on the weather. As you rise into the sky, you will enjoy a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the “endless plains” of the Serengeti. The pilot will help spot wildlife and may lower or raise the balloon for better views and direction.
The flight lasts about one hour (plus or minus 15 minutes depending on the weather), and you can even enjoy coffee while floating peacefully above the wildlife below.

Night Game Drive
A night game drive offers a completely different safari experience. After dark, many animals that are rarely seen during the day become active.
You may spot animals such as porcupines, genets, civet cats, and hippos grazing near the road. Lions, which often rest during the day, are usually active at night, making sightings more common. This is an exciting opportunity to discover the hidden nightlife of the African bush.

Canoeing in Arusha National Park
For a calm and scenic adventure, enjoy a canoeing safari on the small Momella Lake in Arusha National Park. This two-hour canoe trip follows the shoreline and allows you to quietly observe wildlife from the water.
You may see buffaloes, bushbuck, giraffes, hippos, and many species of water birds living close to the lake. This activity is suitable for guests aged 8 years and above and offers a peaceful change from traditional game drives.
Maasai Boma Visit
A visit to a Maasai Boma gives you the chance to learn about one of Tanzania’s most famous tribes. You will experience their traditional way of life, see their homes, learn about their customs, and enjoy traditional dances and songs. This cultural visit adds meaningful understanding to your safari journey.
Ngorongoro Crater Rim Short Walk
While staying near the Ngorongoro Crater, you can enjoy an easy and educational 90-minute guided walk along the Crater rim with a resident naturalist. During the walk, you will learn about local plants, birds, and wildlife while enjoying spectacular views of the Crater floor below. Both morning and evening walks are available.

Make Your Safari More Than Just a Game Drive
These activities add depth, adventure, and cultural connection to your safari. They allow you to experience Tanzania not only through wildlife but also through landscapes, people, and unique perspectives.
